Bathymetric Mapping and Underwater Ecosystem Health

Lesson

Know, Want to Know, Learn

Materials

Teacher

  • Chart Paper or Smart/Promethean Board where you can continually add information

Engage

Remind students about what we’ve learned from previous day.

Let students know that they will be learning about their local underwater ecosystem. They will be exploring, mapping, and using a GPS tracking tool to help them better understand the ecosystem in order to keep it safe and thriving.

Explore

Prepare a KWL (Know, Want to Know, Learn) chart.

Elicit information from students for things they already know, things they want to know about the topic, and save the L column to be filled in as you go. If you’d like, have students create a chart in their science notebook.

Have students discuss their most pressing questions with each other.

Take this time to clear up any potential misconceptions.
